Our dedicated teams at American Dry Cleaning Company have built a strong reputation for the care and attention we put into our wedding dress dry cleaning services. After all, what better way could there be to help preserve the quality and integrity of your wedding dress after your special day than to have it professionally dry cleaned and then stored away in protective packaging to keep it safe.
However, if you don’t want to consign your wedding dress to the back of your wardrobe or the darkness of your loft never to be seen again, there are ways to re-use your wedding dress and still keep those precious memories alive of your big day.
We often have customers come to us when they want to re-use their precious wedding dress again. This is often when a mother hands down her dress to her daughter to wear at her wedding. Sometimes the dress will need a bit of TLC from our team before it is fit to wear again, so after a good inspection and dry clean, we can advise you about any immediate repairs that are needed, such as hemline tears from shoe heels, snags or holes, or loose stitching and missing buttons etc.
Wedding dress alterations
Our team is also aware that times change and so do wedding dress fashions! A great way to alter your dress is to make alterations and tailor it to suit the new bride’s tastes and desires.
Quite often having your wedding dress tailored can be a lot more cost-effective than buying a brand new dress, plus your dress will have more sentimental value because of its family history.
What is also a nifty idea is to save any spare fabric from your wedding dress alteration to use over again! We loved what one of our customers did with her spare material.
After having her wedding dress tailored to fit her daughter, she asked to keep the spare material. A couple of years later she re-used her spare material to create a christening outfit for her first grandchild – what a great way to re-use a wedding dress!
We also have made cushion covers, baby quilts and pillowcases from spare wedding dress material for customers, which we think is an amazing way to save a lot of beautiful fabric from going to waste.
Making a new outfit from your dress
For a lot of brides, it seems like a great shame to pack away their wedding dress never to be touched again for 50 years or more. Many brides these days are not quite a sentimental about their dress as in previous generations, and will happily bring them into us to alter to make another dress that can be worn more often.
Apart from asking us to tailor their dress for their daughter to wear at their own wedding, we are also asked to make a prom dress or an evening dress for their daughter. The great thing about doing this means that their daughter will arrive at their special occasion knowing that no other girl will be wearing the same dress!
